❤ About

Emily Taylor is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design University and currently resides and works in Toronto as a freelance illustrator. Although living in the concrete jungle has its advantages, there are days where she’d prefer to spend time exploring and sketching real forests than the green roof garden across the street.

As a child Emily found both food toys and grocery stores obsessively fascinating and to this day food remains playing a reoccurring role in her work. Early in life she was also introduced to pastimes like beach combing and rock collecting and from there stemmed a deep love for natural surroundings, and a great inspiration for the small ecological wonders often overlooked; from discarded bird’s feathers to the frilled edges of forest fungi.

Her passion for ‘befriending’ neglected antiques and flea market finds, whether it be fabrics or dishes or lead type trays, is reflected in her illustrations. Her imaginative way of appreciating them once again is contemporary and fresh while still sustaining a vintage tone to her colours, patterns and textures.

As well as illustrating, for years Emily has honed interests in jewelry design, sewing, and embroidery, as well dabbling in minor ornithology and botany. Recently she has been exploring ways to integrate these hobbies further into her work and looks forward to the many ways she can incorporate her illustration into surface design and illustrated housewares.
