Screaming Shrimp!
Over the Christmas my uncle told me a story...
One of his co-workers had recently been to visit their company in China ... After several days of being served traditional dishes and delicacies (one of which was comprised of three sparrows pinned to a board, feathers, beaks and eyes intact). He suggested to his host that perhaps, on their fourth night, they might eat something more 'western'. The host ordered a shrimp dish for him. When the meal arrived, a tureen was brought forth, filled, apparently, with dark blue-black liquid; and then, with mingled horror and amazement, the bowl emitted a high-pitched shriek.
It was, as promised, the shrimp dish. The liquid was a mixture of vodka and squid's ink - the shrimp were alive in the bowl, but slowly marinating from their insides out. Watching closer, the shrimp could been seen surfacing briefly. And the shrieking? - the shrimps' last breaths.

Farewell
This card was painted in memory of my great uncle Merritt, who just passed away last week. He was an ornithologist, and was the prime culprit in starting my interest / obsession with birds ...
This is for you uncle Merritt - thanks for teaching me about hummingbirds, I'll never forget!

A belated thanks...
A friend gave me a card some weeks back and because of the end-of-school rush I wasn't able to properly thank him at the time (so now I'll say it - Thank You!! ;) ) ... It's a christmas card featuring a beautiful fashion illustration done by LA-based illustrator Helen Huang (http://helen-huang.com); Huang's illustration references one of the last pieces created by the late, great Alexander McQueen.
If you're curious to see the card, you can check out his fashion blog (http://www.fusionofeffects.com/) , where, I believe, he will be posting the card up for the public to see after December 20th!
Thank you again! The McQueen christmas card is gorgeous and already hung up on my wall! :)
Cheers,
- Em

Lemon on Acid
Some stupid "pop-homework" assignment my prof thought would be fun - he was sadly mistaken. I really hate blending with acrylics, despite the retarder ... I'm pretty sure my loathing for the medium is evident. Oh well, here we go:
